The Island 32

The Resonant Field

Resonance begins when two lives share a single intention. It grows when their actions align with the rhythm of the land. In this alignment, power moves without force.

In this scene we see where CoPlot decided to clean up David without a prompt. His hair is cut short removing the gray and shaved his beard with a sharpened clam shell in the traditional islander way. CoPlot generated AI image using remarkable foretelling of the nearly complete bath house.

The sun had climbed to its highest place and settled there with its ancient authority over the earth, pouring its warmth into the clearing until the air felt thick enough to touch. Light gathered on every surface, pressing into the wood, the soil, the stones, and even into the quiet spaces between Renate’s thoughts. She felt as though the island was dissecting her with the heat, waiting to see what shape her mind would take beneath its gaze.

David worked nearby, fitting wood beams into the rising frame of the hut. His movements were steady and unhurried, shaped by a patience that seemed to come from some unfathomable reservoir within him. When he paused to examine the angle of a beam, he glanced toward her.

“You are working with purpose today,” he said, his voice carrying the warmth of the afternoon.

His words settled into her like a stone dropped into still water. She felt the ripples move outward through her awareness. Purpose. The word lingered. She lifted another stone from the pile beside her and felt its warm surface against her palm. The stone carried the memory of the stream that had shaped it, and she sensed that the island was showing her something through that memory. She had been shaped by forces she did not fully understand, carried by currents she had not chosen, and now she was placing herself into the world with intention for the first time in a long while.

She set the stone into the earth and brushed dust from her hands.

“I feel good,” she said. “The work helps.”

David nodded as he adjusted another beam. “Work steadies the mind. It gives our thoughts something to hold onto.”

His voice blended with the hum of insects rising from the forest. The sound was constant, a low vibration that seemed to rise from the tree canopy. Renate felt it resonate in her chest. The island was not speaking to her. It was reflecting her. The forest, the sea, the shifting light, all of it formed a mirror that showed her the shape of her own inner landscape.

She paused to drink from her cup. As she lifted it, sunlight blazing through a shifting leaves in a nearby tree caught the walkway and made the stones shimmer. The sight stirred something within her. The shimmer felt like a memory rising from the stream, a reminder that even the smallest fragments of the world carried stories of movement and transformation. She realized that meaning was not something delivered from outside. It could grow from the things shaped by human hands, from the choices made in moments of labor, from the creativity of thoughtful minds and bus hands.

David approached with a bundle of broad leaves. “These will make a good roof,” he said as he set them down.

Renate smiled at him. “You always are thinking ahead.”

He shook his head lightly. “I think of what keeps us comfortable. Comfort is a kind of wisdom.”

His words opened another space inside her. She placed another stone and watched the walkway extend toward the hut. The curve of the path felt like a line drawn from her own thoughts. She felt the island echo that shape back to her, as though acknowledging the alignment between her inner world and the one she was building.

“I understood something this morning,” she said, her voice quiet but steady. “The dream was not a message from the island. It came from within me. It revealed the shape of my own longing.”

David studied her face with a calm, steady gaze. “That is a powerful realization.”

“It feels like a weight lifted,” she said. “I do not need the cave to speak. I only need to listen to myself.”

“You are definitely listening now,” he replied.

His words settled into her with a warmth that matched the afternoon sun. She felt the truth of them move through her. The breeze carried the scent of the sea across the clearing, and she closed her eyes for a moment, letting the world settle around her. The island felt calm, aware, like a place where her thoughts could unfold without fear of being lost.

When she opened her eyes, she saw the hut rising with clean lines and a sense of purpose. The walkway reached toward its door, gleaming in the late light. She stepped back and regarded what they had built. The structure stood firm. The stones were smooth and reflected the light in tiny sparkles of polished crystal. The day’s labor had shaped something real, something that reflected the quiet transformation taking place within her.

David wiped sweat from his brow and joined her. “It is finally coming together.”

“It feels good,” she said, and she meant it with a depth she had not felt in years.

They stood together in the warm light of late afternoon. The island breathed around them. The dream drifted into distance. The present sharpened into clarity. Renate felt herself return fully to the world she could touch, and the island mirrored that return with a quiet acceptance that felt like a blessing.

They sat together in the shade of the new hut to rest. Hip to hip, shoulder to shoulder they talked about the things they wanted to do when the bath house was finished.

Renate teased David. “I want the first bath.”

“If there is enough hot water left, I’ll gladly take seconds” He replied.

Renate thought for a second. “We will need to conserve water.”

David grinned as if he’d won some important point. “I’ll wash your back if you’ll wash mine.”

“I’ll wash all of you from head to foot, you know, like those bath house girls in Thailand.”

David studied Renate’s mischievous grin for moment. “We may be in the tub for a long time. We better keep some apple fritters and pear wine in there just in case we get hungry.”

Renate laughed at how David always equated intimacy with good food. She mentioned how wonderful it was going to be when they went feral.

  1. I thought the last chapter in The Island was the last chapter in The Island.
    But I guess not.
The Island will probably end with the bath hut 🛖 being completed.
Renate will probably go in to take the first bath 🛁 only to see Sir Winston Churchill’s ghost laying there and saying, “As you can see, the Prime Minister of Britain 🇬🇧 has nothing to hide.”

    1. LOL! Winston taking up the bathtub would cause quite a shock. But, the island is a little mysterious. Anything could happen. What I’ve done is post short scenes that make up chapters. So we are coming to the last scene on Monday of the last chapter in Part 1. Part 2 will be all the things Renate and David enjoy doing on the island now that the hard work of establishing themselves is accomplished and they are now fully committed.

      1. So I take it, Part 2 will include the famous luau scene which readers are looking forward to with breathless anticipation at what CoPilot will create for the scene.

        1. Yes. The luau is suggested by Renate on Monday and then we switch to Part 2. Copilot has informed me that all of the orgy scenes must have the characters fully clothed, not in a suggestive position, and the image be blacked out. I’m okay with this because it forces the reader into using their imagination rather than doom scrolling. All sexually titillating text will also be censored. However, there will be plenty of exposition rated Great for general audiences.

  2. I wonder what’s left to do in part 1?

Guess I’ll find out. I like that the leaves made the stones shimmer. That took me somewhere for a moment.

    Thank you, Dan!

    {Oh… I’d like a jar of that Coplot in a cream, please! It seems to take years off one’s face and cut your hair at the same time.}

    1. LOL! The ending scene is next. Wait until you see Renate after her first luxurious bath after arriving on the island. CoPlot Crème de Youth made from coconut oil, island botanicals, roasted lime, and ash instantly takes ten years off her skin and looks. David looks young and strong just standing next to her. They were starting to look a bit disheveled. Mother Nature sent them to the showers and it worked. 😁

  3. Our island couple seem to be adjusting to their surroundings and finally actually getting back to nature. All work and no play… well, you know what happens then. 🏝️

    1. That’s right. Lots of things in the way of them getting back to why they went there in the first place. Somebody needs to get back to squeezing those ripe pears or there won’t be any wine for the Luau.

                    7. I’m going to try it but I haven’t figured it all out yet. IT could be because I use my iPad instead of my laptop. Searching so far only takes me to blogs with the name Renate in them. I need to figure out how to search the comments. This might just be exactly what I need to keep the storyline going.

    1. Oh for an inexhaustible supply of wine! Without a glass of wine at just the right time, life can become an exhaustive endeavor made infinitely worse by an endless invasion of sand in one’s underwear. The little pleasures do matter.
