Paint Me

So I wait for you like a lonely house
till you will see me again and live in me.
Till then my windows ache.

― Pablo Neruda, 100 Love Sonnets

Paint Me is now published in Hyperion’s Library in PDF and Kindle ePub for free download or online reading in the library.

Excerpt:
The short days of fall in the mountains were beautiful times for Melanie. The cool darkness traveled along her arms and face as she walked the forest trail. Fall covered everything in the burnt ocher of clouds set aflame by the sunset. The last light of day reflected off the dampness of turning leaves and the spicy scent of wet air mixed with the earthen musk of the forest floor. Melanie returned home with her spirits renewed. Gunnar’s accident was behind them, and she would do all she could to bring him from behind the veil of darkness into her arms where her love would heal him.

Blurb:
Paint Me is about Gunnar and his wife, who live in the Alpine Mountains of Switzerland with their cat, Gaston. After a car accident, Gunnar’s mind is damaged, with many memories and personality confused in a jumble of daydreams and his obsession with painting. His devoted wife tries every way she can to help Gunnar regain his old self and their former love shared in a picturesque setting.

Many of my current and former readers saw this story develop on my blog, and I used feedback in comments and emails to refine the short story to what it is today. Completely edited and formatted, it’s finally ready. This is a mystery romance in which we aren’t exactly sure what is happening until the final twist at the end. Please enjoy at your leisure.

    It was excellent.

    1. Thank you Chris. I accidently uploaded draft copies but just corrected them to final copies. Couple of whoopsies were in there before. They are free so help yourself if you like. This is the story Sara Kjeldsen collaborated on briefly in 2015, I promised I’d finish it. It only took me 9 years but, I did it.

      1. 9 years? Cheeesus! In that time I have…I dunno…drank a lot of triple espresso’s….which now I seem dependent upon to literally function….

        1. Maybe if you switch to quadruple expressos, you might be able to finish the story of Paul (I remember his name now), Akira, Lasseter and Billy Bob.

Either that or you’ll be diagnosed by psychiatrists for extreme hyperactivity disorder.

            1. They do, my friend.

Mysterious things (on one or the other side of the Supernatural coin) happen every day.

On one hand, little things happen that you don’t really notice until you look back at them in retrospect.

Those little things are “God speaking in a still small voice” to quote Lucy Maud Montgomery the author of Anne of Green Gables (a novel that’s actually more popular in Japan than it is in Canada today).

It’s because God speaks in a still small voice that we don’t recognize it until later.

The Devil on the other hand is always like a roaring lion 🦁 (or a fat ugly blimp!).

They come crashing through the door (particularly if you’re sitting in a coffee shop at the time) thoroughly ruining your day.

        2. You chose wisely, my friend. Had you chosen fentanyl instead of double shot espresso you would be bent over at the waist on Pennsylvania Avenue instead of wide awake in your recliner.

          1. Hi Daniel,

I think you might enjoy reading the vampire novel chapter I posted last night (Sunday August 11th) entitled Mr. O’ Malley, Ahriman and The Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Pope Francis and Hubal While Jefferey The Otter 🦦 Tries Mexican Magic Mushrooms 🍄 In A DARPA Lab.

  2. Such a beautifully haunting tale of unrequited love and desire with a magnificent awakening. I’m halfway through Paint Me so not to give the story line away I can only say this is captivating! Congratulations Dan.

    1. Thank you so much Rene. I actually have worked on Paint Me since 2015. It started as a muse and took many turns before it was ready. I’m happy to turn it loose to find its way to readers who can enjoy it.

  4. Downloaded! Will read alongside “The Fall of Hyperion.” (Is that a bit of synchronicity or what?)

    1. Thank you George, I appreciate your time and effort to slog through my musings. And what a synchronicity it is to read about Gunnar and Sari in contrast with the John Keats persona of Joseph Severn and Brawne Lamia. Hope you enjoy that mystery too.

Aside from your cool book, Paint Me,

Paint the world, as far as I’m concerned.
